Iowa Remembers, Inc. is very grateful to all of those who made the 3rd Annual Remembrance Run a success. We want to thank our participants, volunteers, and sponsors for supporting this important event.
A special thank you the Iowa National Guard, Scheels, and the University of Phoenix for sponsoring the Remembrance Run. There are also a number of those who volunteered time, services, and talents to support the event. Thanks to Jethro’s BBQ, Iowa Pork Producers, and Brother Trucker for bringing enjoyment to our post-race festivities. We’d also like to thank MidAmerican Energy for proudly hoisting our American flag high above the finish line. Thanks to Ankeny Fareway and Mimi’s Café for providing pre-race goodies.
We also want to thank the people who made our Honoring Iowa’s Fallen ceremony such a moving tribute to our fallen service members. Many thanks go to the following who made it all possible: to Steve Sutton and Craig Sommerfeld for the flyover; to Charlie Sherpa from Red Bull Rising for emceeing the ceremony and reading our Roll Call; to Chaplain Skip Manus for the invocation; to Denae Erickson for sharing her personal story about her brother Cpl. Chad Groepper, KIA 2/17/08; to Sydney Lett for her beautiful rendition of the National Anthem; and to Eddie Hatfield of KJJY for kicking off the race and for announcing the finish line notes. Thanks to True Time Racing for being a joy to work with year after year, and to the city of West Des Moines for hosting our event. We also want to thank Paws & Effect puppy-raisers for sharing their service dogs in-training with our participants.
We greatly appreciate our numerous volunteers for making this event possible, including groups from the American Legion Riders, We Cypport our Troops, and Wells Fargo. We truly could not make this event a success without them!
Our deepest heartfelt thanks especially go out to Courtney Hinders and Sarah Espinoza for all their hard work in helping us organize the Remembrance Run. We appreciate their dedication in helping make this event successful not only on race day, but for donating their time and talents year-round in preparation for the run.
To our participants – thank you all for your support. We hope that you join us again next year for the 4th Annual Remembrance Run in September of 2013.
And above all else, let us never forget the sacrifices made by our fallen Iowa heroes.
